New Delhi: Countless people are trying to lose weight, trim their waistline, and achieve a healthy body mass index (BMI) to waive off the risk of chronic diseases or simply to look nice. And when it comes to weight loss, the diet has always taken precedence over intense and strenuous workouts. On the diet front, there are options like intermittent fasting, ketogenic diet, and Dr Michael Mosley’s 5:2 routine. However, the expert’s most recent one for weight loss is the Fast 800 Keto – created in 2019, this was when Dr Mosley spoke about the benefits of eating only 800 calories in a day for someone who aimed for rapid weight loss. And with so fewer calories to consume, he went on to explain how eating eggs for breakfast can catalyze the process and help one shed more kilos.
How does eating eggs support weight loss?
According to Dr Mosley, eating 500 calories in the 5:2 routine was a more manageable routine. However, now, 800 calories are recommended every day. And this, he said, is the next stage of the 5:2 routine. He explained that although people lost weight easily on 5:2, they struggled to attain the feat and it was more like they were eating 800 calories a day irrespective and still managed to achieve rapid weight loss.
These results were backed by a study based in North England were eating 800 calories a day for 12 weeks induced an average weight loss of 14 kg. Another study was conducted at Oxford University where people lost 10kg in a year.
What do 800 calories in a day look like?
800 calories a day amounts to three meals and it’s not too much. To begin with, have eggs for breakfast with some asparagus. Eggs are a nutrition-dense food, one of the best sources of proteins and essential nutrients that keep you full for long, nourish the body, and induce weight loss over time. Boil them, scramble them or eat in omelette form with some salmon, coffee, tea, toast, or ham.
On this diet, Dr Mosley recommends drinking lots of fluids because the body is going to dry out. Amidst this, people’s diet lacked starchy carbs in meals which is the case within keto diet as well that burns fat to create energy due to the absence of carbs. The expert, however, did not stress on going low-carbs all the time. He suggested opting for healthier versions of carbs found in fruits and vegetables.
